Dr Haywood Cheung

Dr Haywood Cheung graduated from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada with a Bachelor of Science in Geology Engineering and Economics. Later, he went on to obtain an Executive Master degree of Business Administration and a Doctor of Business Administration, from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in four years. He was awarded the "Honorary Fellow”by CityU in 2016.
Dr Cheung has over 30 years’'of experience in metal trading, securities and futures brokerage and Forex dealing. He is the chairman of Target Insurance (Holdings) Limited, one of the largest car insurers in Hong Kong, and wass the chairman of Simsen International Corporation Limited from 1997 to 2011.
In addition to his business portfolio, Dr Cheung takes up various public duties, including the president of the Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE), and the chairman of Shenzhen Qianhai Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society Limited. As the only gold and silver exchange recognised by the HKSAR Government, CGSE is among the world’s top five gold exchanges. During his tenure as the president of CGSE, he initiated and promoted the launch of transaction code, Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre, 9999-fine Gold Contract, Renminbi Kilobar Gold Contract (the first offshore Renminbi-denominated gold product) and Loco Silver 1 Contract, etc. These new initiatives have boosted the daily trading volume of CGSE to HK$100 billion in recent years. On September 19, 2014, Dr Cheung signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of CGSE with Mr Xu Luode, president of Shanghai Gold Exchange.
